Restlessness and Perseverance

I thank you spirit of restlessness and longing, for without you I would have never mastered discipline and perseverance. I thank you spirit of restlessness and longing, for without your constant teaching and strength, I would be forever tossed and turned by the waves of the sea. Danny G.

The Hero Within Us

We look at a celebrity with admiration and astonishment in our eyes. We sing them praises for merely their talent, elegance, and recognition. Yet we don’t see our own magnificence, triumph, and the hero within us. We’re heroes because we persevered despite the seemingly little odds. We’re heroes because we didn’t give in despite the world crashing down on us. We’re heroes because we persisted despite it all, and saw the victory, not for reasons that are irrelevant to who we are. The Swim to Victory (Poem)

As I swim in the deep cold blue,

Beneath remains squids, sharks, stingrays

And 30 feet deep.

I stay focused on the sandy shore,

About 500 meters away,

As the current comes sweeping my way,

I gasp for air,

In these 10 feet waves,

From the shoreline grace,

Completely focused on my destiny,

Completely focused on my victory,

I’ve pulled through in my mind,

So be it in life.

As the squids try to attach,

And the sharks try to bite,

And the stingrays tries to sting,

I’ve been down this current before,

I won it in my mind,

So be it in life.

Despair Made Me Stronger (Poem)

My deepest moments of despair,

Brought about my strength,

And perseverance and faith.

The moments I so wanted an escape,

Were the moments I prayed and praised

Despite the heartache.

The moments of despair

Reconciled me into appreciation.

It’s what pushed me to be grateful,

Despite the trash in my back pack.

This persistent wave of despair and depression,

Would knock me down

Aggressively without warning.

A constant cloud,

That would follow me

Just waiting to be poured on.

It’s my stiff upper lip,

My determination,

That pulled me through,

Despite my carry-on loaded with scrap.

Today I thank my despair,

Because in the end

It made me stronger,

Persistent,

And aggressively bold,

To not give in

Until my promise is fulfilled,

And I’m still standing,

Like a palm tree,

That bends, but never falls.

Trust Without Reason (Poem)

He asked his father,

What can I do?

It feels like check mate,

I’ve tried everything,

I feel as though,

The weight on my shoulders

Is crippling me now.

Do I lay down?

And let the current sweep me away?

And allow the weight of the tide

To pull me down?

He said to his son,

What is unwavering faith and boldness

And persevering despite doubt?

The son replied I don’t know.

His father replied,

It’s to not know,

And still believe, despite reason.

It’s to say, I don’t understand,

But father I know you have a way,

And I won’t stop nagging,

Until my promise is fulfilled,

And my mission is complete.

True Meaning of Courage (Poem)

The most courageous of them all

Is the one

Who declares his faith,

Despite appearance

Contradicting his faith.

The one who perseveres,

Despite reality pushing him down.

He seeks compassion,

Despite the cruelty

Imprinted in the world.

The most courageous of them all,

Is the one who declares I can,

Despite inferiority sneaking up.

The one who never gave in,

Or forgot who he was

And where he came from.

The most courageous one, is the one

Who got up,

Despite the pile of brick on his back.

He remained steadfast,

Despite the world shaking him up.

He seeks enlightenment,

Despite the darkness in the world.

He’s the enlightened one,

Who speaks it into being,

Then watches the universe

 Manifest it into being.

Always a victor,

And never underestimating

His own power.

Discipline and Self Control

How do we master discipline? How does anyone master anything other than practice and repetition, and a determination to persevere to our goal.

How does a great ball player become a great ball player? How does a great stock broker become a great stock broker? How does a great father become a great father?

Mastering discipline means being in control of our thoughts, words and actions. When we’re disciplined enough to change our thoughts, words and actions when they’re not serving us, we’ve mastered discipline. We then take this practice wherever we go and it serves us. Every day we deal with a whole new set of circumstances and experiences in which we learn again how to gain self-control.

Lacking self-discipline can be described as an affirmation that we don’t have self-control. When we’re undisciplined we’re basically saying that our thoughts, words and actions are not in our control.

Ponder a subject in which you exercise self-control, and ask yourself why you have control over this subject, and not the other subject which you say is out of your control. If you have control over one matter, then you can have control over all matters since you use the same practice of discipline over everything. The only difference is your feeling of powerlessness on this subject in which you’re lacking self-control.

When we affirm we have self-discipline we’re changing our beliefs system into believing we’re in control. If we were to tell ourselves all day long we want to eat a piece of chocolate cake, what would eventually happen if we didn’t change our focus?

This applies to everything in life including the larger problems we believe are beyond our reach. If we keep focusing on something over and over again, we move towards it by law. If you were to tell yourself in your earlier years, I have discipline and self-control, I believe in myself, I trust myself, and I can do anything I set my mind to, would you be in the same place you are today?

If you say yes, I think I would still be in the same place as I am today, then you’re basically saying that your thoughts and words hold no power. If you say I believe I would still be in the same place regardless of how many times I spoke these affirmations, you’re basically saying I have no control. What do you have control over other than your thoughts, and the words you speak? Doesn’t all action stem from the thoughts and words you repeat over time?

What happens when we live with someone who lacks discipline all our lives? Many times, we begin to pick up on these traits, and if we don’t do anything about changing these negative patterns, they will eventually create our experiences. Don’t wait until the problem manifests before changing the underlying thoughts that created the problem to begin with.

Without discipline we can’t stick to anything because everything in life requires self-control in order to move forward. Everyone can have discipline, it just takes time, practice and perseverance to achieve our goals. This practice begins with the affirmation I HAVE DISCIPLINE
